Butterz to reissue Treble Clef's 'Ghetto Kyote'

I've heard the releases Butterz are putting out are just flying, so expect this to be out of stock pretty quickly, they say it's probably the only reissue they'll do at Butterz, but if you was gonna reissue a grime classic, it would most likely be Ghetto Kyote. KAMIKAZE!

Valta & Minikin - Man Down/Bad Sex

Released today on Rag & Bone Records, Valta & Minikin take a break from their Subfm duties and running their Kiev based club night to release 2 overly-infectious dancefloor murderers. Man Down is a 4x4 stomping beat over a mutated bassline, you'll find it hard not to move yourself. On the flip, Bad Sex is a personal favourite of mine, another monster bassline with vocals being chopped all over the gaff. Ominous strings just add to the drama. Bag it and tag it today.

They've also been kind enough to give away 'Let's Go Mental' so you really can't moan! You know what to do, downward facing arrow on the right side of the player, go, go go!

Can't get enough of...

this.

It certainly brightened up my Monday.

Synkro - Look at Yourself

Heard it was played by Skream & Benga, on Radio 1, didn't catch that show but I know how massively laid back that cut is, I don't condone weed smoking, but I mean... IF you were going to, you'd slap this on. Currently a dubplate out there in a few DJ's cases I would assume, big up Synkro.

Numan x Adele - Rolling in the Deep

For those who are familiar with Numan's work, you'll know that at the moment, he can do no wrong and that's not just because he gave away a bag of free tunes as an over-generous Xmas present. He doesn't stop producing, and here's the latest to come out of the cauldron.. The original deserves to be fucked with, the vocal is so inviting.

...and follow this link for the interview I had with Numan a while back.

Breach - Fatherless (T. Williams Remix)

The smash hit enigma that was and still is 'Fatherless' get's the Deep Teknologi treatment. Massive!

Ill Blu - Meltdown EP

Valentines Day see's the next Numbers release, from Ill Blu. They've been called 'elusive' with the releases and appearances being rare. This EP does unleash 3 dancefloor murderers, so, no need to moan.

Hotflush - Back and 4th compilation

"Hotflush Recordings will release a compilation of new and old tracks this spring called Back and 4th.

Few labels have shaped recent UK bass music as much as Hotflush. Soon after its conception nearly eight years ago, it became a trendsetting source of dubstep. More recently, following a move from Bristol to Berlin, it's been blurring the genre lines within UK bass (dubstep, funky, drum & bass, etc.) while also weaving in elements of house and techno.
Back and 4th collects nine of the label's biggest tracks from the past few years, such as Mount Kimbie's "Sketches on Glass" and Joy Orbison's "Hyph Mango," the latter of which was RA's #1 tune of 2009. It also presents ten exclusive new ones from artists like Roska, Boxcutter and newcomers Sepalcure. The collection is unmixed, and will be available on triple vinyl as well as CD."

4 The Love - Lorcan Mak (Dark Sky Remix)

Everything Dark Sky touches seems to turn to gold, in my eyes anyway. This remix is no exception, I was a bit late to this one it seems, definitely a bassline to hear on a proper system. Go, go, go.

OK, Space Juke?

Pink wedding dresses? Trains? A man duplicating himself? Fuck it, just watch it... Respect to DJ Rashad and DJ Spinn

Cool and Dre not crediting Skream?

OK, they're might've been a La Roux remix sometime last year from Skream, you may have heard about it (sarcasm)... Well, Cool and Dre obviously did, liked it, copped the vocals, the bassline, slapped some Cool and Dre drums on it and sent it over for Game to spit over. Nice. Not exactly 'produced' by them is it?

Listen to 'The Kill' by Game here..

New stuff from The Streets

Taken from the Cyberspace and Reds mixtape before the Computer and Blues album.. featuring Kano on over some old school vibes, drowning bass. Mike Skinner pushing it forward as usual but of course bringing it back in the process, he's a complex man.

Kryptic Minds - Fade To Nothing

It's taking from there forthcoming album 'Can't Sleep'. This is released on the 4th of April and it's flawless production again from Kryptic Minds, these 2 really know how to create a mood! Have a listen..

Kelis - Brave (Dark Sky Remix)

Kelis' Brave EP came out through Interscope on the 6th of January and there was a host of great remixes, but the Dark Sky remix stood out, as it usually does, the bending chords, the pitch shifting, gets me excited everytime. Cop yours through iTunes or Amazon or anywhere really.

Saturday, 15 January 2011

So, I tried my hand at mixing...

I'd had a few, not gonna lie... and I'm not a DJ, it was a 2am sorta thing!

This is what I come up with though, short and sweet!

SRC - Goomba V.I.P
Starkey - Gutter Music
SRC - Gold Coinz

Enore - Wind Up (2000F & J Kamata Remix)

Whenever I see the words/numbers 2000F & J Kamata I get pretty fucking excited! 'You Don't Know What Love Is' is personally one of my favourite ever tracks, it's flawless. Now, they're back remixing. British act Encore get the gangster funk treatment from these 2 mega talented music makers. Respect!

Rusko - Feel So Real (Dubbel Dutch Remix) - FREE DL

Thankfully sounds nothing like the original. This is some real club friendly vibe, with the vocals being treated so nicely, and beeps and blips sitting on top of this driving beat. Calling this a remix kinda downplays it a bit. Just press the upwards facing arrow on the right and enjoy. Thanks XLR8R!

Exciting news.

...it's a compilation that Planet Mu put together, it's out January 31st and I suppose it's there to wet out appetite before Mu unleashes releases from names such as Chrissy Murderbot and Boxcutter. Yasmin - On My Own (Royal-T Remix)

Heard it, had to post it, Royal-T totally smashes this. A lot of people have said this could be the year of the grime remix, this just kinda reinforces it, got a bit old school at the start there.

West Norwood Casette Library - Blonde on Blonde (Pearson Sound Remix)

Must be nice to have a David Kennedy remix on your labels first release right? Well, that's what the Teal label has got. Without forgetting the original track this Pearson Sound refix (refix always sounds better when David Kennedy is concerned) has gorgeous vocal work, lovely splatter of ravey synths and another Kennedy percussion masterclass! It's out now, pick it up!

Predictions for 2011?

What to look for? I usually don't make predictions and just get surprised by every twist and turn, makes for better entertainment but there is one thing that looks undeniable, and thats the wave of instrumental grime. Led by Elijah, Skilliam and the Butterz camp, it looks massive for 2011 with already Mood Swings by Swindle making my mouth foam. You've also gotta look out for the output on Hardrive, Oil Gang, Earth 616, Rwina and No Hats No Hoods. I'm sure Hyperdub will have another mega successful year with the Kode9 album and Funkystepz releases. Swamp81 aswell look on course for murdering more dancefloors, with more Addison Groove and Boddika releases, with Night Slugs probably tearing up more rulebooks and bridging more gaps between genres. And oh yea, James Blake's world domination is imminent... duh! ...Now, on the festival front, Glade is back, and back to the more intimate setting and Bloc at Minehead looks unbelievable, the lineup is crazy and it keeps getting bigger every time I check on it...

Obviously, there's more to be said on 2011, but this is what I'll immediately look out for
Safe.
